It's a picturesque city set amongst brick streets, dirty pavement and alleyways full of old cafes. I've never seen so much coffee in my life. Seattle is home to Starbucks Intergalactic Headquarters.
Taking a chance with a UER arranged meet had me schooled by an Aussie expat on exploring in Australia. He'd not explored with the cave clan but of course could tell me all about it. Where do these people come from? Also I shit you not there was even talk of orbz. I ran and never looked back...
With locals Junix and Vision we kicked around some well known local abandonments. Gremlin's expert verdict: "It smells". Spanning 14 stories of the mill is a brilliant device known colloquially as a Beltovator.
Spare me a moment to elaborate on this fine machine. A shoulder width rubber belt runs around large rollers at the top and bottom of the 14 story void. Spaced evenly along the belt are handholds and small shelves for your feet which you cling to for dear life as the belt whips you through the floors. There is no cages or intermediate safety devices on the beltovator oh no! You simply step up onto the foot shelves as they pass you or dive and roll away on descent.
Upon the lowest floor where the belt runs under the roller there is a russian laser beam linked to an alarm. Said alarm is so loud I can only presume the theory is to scare the shit out of you and cause the offender to literally jump from the beltovator.
It's an OH&S nightmare but glorious for horror heads with a rampant imagination. Pity the poor worker who appears late to work, is grabbed by the supervisor and affixed to the belt via a rusty piton driven through his chest - cursed to spend his few remaining minutes flung around the bumpy rollers of the beltovator.
