Here: Home » Posts » Japan arrival Fear not, we've arrived safely on Japanese soil in normal physical condition. We suffered horrible mental torture at the hands of the Qantas inflight entertainment system though. Their music selection is terrible. That Paul Mac video clip is mind numbing, all that kept me sane was clutching at the faint hope the girl singing would bob her silly bobbing head into the screen enough times to pass out. Like chinese water torture, only with a glass pane. My hopes were crushed like childhood dreams of owning a rocketship. Damn you lego and your build whatever your mind creates mentality...
After landing a small bubble rocket capsule doobie shot us across to the terminal proper where we discovered the merits of speed eating. Your average Iced-Vovo biscuit contains a small, but signifcant amout of delectable fruity jam mashed between two strips of marshmallowy goodness. They're a treat to be savoured in normal circumstances just not when you're about to hit immigration/customs/quarantine. Mmm queue more marshmallowy mouth stuffing than, well I'm sure you can finish the analogy. Be nice. We didn't get probed by customs either and I even wore my elephant trunk spandex :(

We scooted into the hostel 2 minutes before lockdown to secure our comfy, and surprisingly clean dorm bunks. For some bizarre reason the hostel locked down entirely after 2300. We've predominantly nocturnal hobbies so as one could expect this caused some tension. Never ones to be contained and caged we took it upon ourselves to secure after hours access to the hostel and our rooms. We discovered the firedoor from the toilet led directly into the main building corridors, providing access to the fire escape stairwells. There were cameras in the corridors but frankly the tellychubby (if any) is probably busy doing the sweatpalm shuffle about this hour of the night.
Upon reaching the bottom of the stairwell we adventured into the bowels of the building seeking the external firedoor. The well lit and clean fire escape led, typically for us, into the main control room of the adjacent subway station. Needless to say the small, uniformed station controller was surprised to have 3 burly gaijin interupt his night shift. After berating us in rapidfire japanese he marched us into the building foyer and pointed out the elevator. Dammit we knew the hostel was around here somewhere!
