It is common practice that whoever finds a location is given the rights to name it. In this manner names such as Dougo's Tomb and ekweleksotika came about. I have no idea this drain's age, I would really love to know. I agree it is freaky looking and it is definitely one of my favourite photos.

I just came across a document that suggests that (at least the downstream section of) this drain was constructed in 1899. Good to know.
