We're not supposed to see signs like this, small minded commuters that we are else we become confused and wonder what could this sign, a simple letter R, mean to anyone? Perhaps the signs are just randomised to thoroughly confuse those who pay attention to them. This friends is why I hate warning signs. I've become so used to ignoring them, they're merely visual clutter to which I am working on becoming oblivious to. However grasshopper, as I'm presenting this photo and sign so explicitly to you we must both need work. Study hard.
At what point does signage become ridiculous? Are we to read and evaluate every sign we come across? There so many signs and warnings plastered upon everything that they no longer serve the purpose for which they were originally designed. I'm not reading them, are you?

Yes, this sign is linked with speed.
But it means exactly the contrary: accelerate !
When there is a section of line where trains must slow down, three signals are displayed: the first one indicates the speed not to excess; the second one bears a "Z" letter which means "zone" and indicates the beginning of the zone where the train must effectively not exceed the previously indicated speed; and the last one, at the end of the special zone, bears an "R" which means "reprise", ie "go back to the normal speed on this line".
Here, there are sharp curves when entering the station, hence the speed limit!
