The capped end of an old bridge. The bridge is now burried underground and forgotten. It is one of the best features to be found in the drains. Flash painted. Fuji Sensia 100

I've always wondered - is this in the CBD?

Nope, out northside.

I had this vague thought it might have been part of the long-lost creek after which the CBD street was named, you see. Anyway, as a die-hard southsider, I like a good well-planned rectangular-section channel, none of this make-it-up-as-we-go business. Without necessarily giving away too much, how about an estimate of kilometres from the GPO?

If square concrete (with occasional beveled edges) is your style then Toadie may disappoint. There is an entrances about 3.5km north of the city.

I jest, I jest - sometimes the tone just doesn't come through. Anyway, about 3.5km you say - a searching I shall go...

1.5km from where in the city though... brisbane city is getting pretty big these days right?

Indeed it is. I also don't know how accurate you're feeling when you say 3.5km, so I dare say I have a fair area to cover.

Well, no luck so far - I've trawled through parts of the CBD, valley, and Spring Hill. I could of course have passed right by an entrance without realising. I hear that the site has recently been vandalised fairly heavily - were you aware of this? In my travels, though, I discovered an interesting drain entrance in suburban Mount Gravatt East, where a two-manholed concrete protrusion in a small grass floodway leads down (with stepirons) to a concrete room with three RCPs. Ever explore this?

Ah ha! I have found two potential locations. <- content removed -> Do either sound likely?

Hey Waffle, is your real name Johnny Tightlips?

Waffle, I know this tunnel has been painted a lot recently and many people know it's location. This is why I'm not to tightlipped to drop hints for its whereabouts. It can't get too much more fucked. I might have done the drain you're referring to, I've lost count of the crappy surburban drains we've explored. When you find something good remember what ds did for you.

I'm a man of few words, Piz. Dsankt, thank ye muchly, and should I find anything worthwhile in my travels, I'll be very sure to share the love. Btw, feel free to cut back more of those earlier comments of mine if you feel they're too revealing: the telling factors were the distance and direction (plus a quick topo survey), and the name of the drain, which tied together a great deal of other information. Also, discovering the location leads you to more official details of the drain. One thing I *haven't* yet found, though, is an identifiable image or description of the bridge before it was covered...

You're right, there is so much scattered information on the net if you know the right sources. Once you know the drain it all ties together quite neatly. I'm at a loss for a photo of the bridge as well, if you find one let me know. Slim picking on the net but hitting the state library might prove worth the effort.

Any chance this is near the waterholes. I'm sure they're further then 3.5kms from the CBD though.. I haven't actually been in yet, thats why i ask. Thinking of heading in this weekend if weather permits. Location definitely has a bridge, two entrances, and another entrance about 20m down the little creek thing. Sound at all familiar?
