Ive clipped a 3rd rail in the UK, sent my leg flaring up behind me...me and my mates were pissing ourselfs for about 2 hours cos it was numb, and dead....we realised that they dont have the full current/power running through at all times....but i wouldnt want to put that theory to test still.....
Yeah, I've heard mixed stories from people about the lines being off at night, run at minimal power, exactly the same as during full service... even from railway engineers so really there's only one safe approach, don't touch em. The upcoming post has me a lil queasy, you'll see.

Ah ok :) i'll be waiting for it....i was trying to dig up a photo i got of some people i knew sitting on the third rail....cant find it now...
