In search of mines once again. The foundations and various buildings around the main mine site are there but the snow prevented a proper search for portals. We'd arrived prepped for a lazy dayhike - jeans, sneakers etc but wound up huddled in a concrete foundation burning toilet paper to warm our toes.

fuck dude, erm, you should be careful off potholes covered by the snow!!! a stick to poke the ground with would suffice, you don't need to go around looking like a bunch of sherpas ... but yeah, knowing you haven't plunged to your near death in a 100meter deep shaft in the -20degc cold then shivering to death in a lonely and helpless state is what helps me sleep at night. I might think you're a useless wanker with no ninja tekneeks or photizzle skizzles but I still care about you dude.

Coming from you, and your experiences in the Alps (awesome story by the way - certainly my favourite of all your travel emails) I take what you're saying seriously. It's a case of new-to-snow explorers (2 aussies, 2 texans and a vancouverite) not really understanding the potential dangers. We hiked in along a snow covered mine and stayed pretty close to all the buildings. Thanks for heads up.

That concrete structure has been hit up in a few snowboard films. Neat to see it not in that context. Frankly, I like the context of just about everything better the way you present it here. thank you thank you thank you
